Jaida
THE first episode of The Banquet Hall podcast features none other than Jaida (she/her), a software engineer, podcaster, and the CEO and founder of Black Beauty Near You (BBNY). Jaida was one of the first people I approached about the idea of The Banquet Hall, and she gave the right affirmations to help motivate me to get the podcast off of the ground.
Jaida is a phenomenal business leader and a strong advocate for Black students across the nation. I met her when she was a student at UC San Diego, and although our time as students did not cross paths, the energy of the work that was done was still definitely felt. She spent time as the Chair of UC San Diego’s Black Student Union, has been recognized as one of the top in Black Business Leaders under 40, is 1/4 of the #QuadPod at our sister pod, Four Deep Podcast, and has only elevated so much more since the time this episode was recorded. Our conversation dives into Jaida’s background, how she started BBNY, her love for representing Black engineers, and to my GREAT surprise, how she low key a Celtics (…) fan.
